Proposed Development

Development Description: to burn meat and bone meal as a fuel source in the existing pre-heater and cement kiln. It is proposed to substitute up to 45% of the coal currently burned at the plant with meat and bone meal. Meat and bone meal will be stored in two previously permitted fuel silos (MCC reg. ref. TA/40228). There will be no residues arising from the burning of meat and bone meal, as any residue resulting will be incorporated into cement produced at the plant. The proposed development is included within the boundary of the area covered by a licence granted under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 (Integrated Pollution Control Licence No. 665). An Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Licence from the Environmental Protection Agency will also be required for the proposed change of fuel under the first schedule of the protection of the Environment Act 2003. An EIS will be submitted to the Planning Authority with this application
