Permission for renovation and improvement works at An Bhialann (Student Restaurant), The James Hardiman Library Building, Arts Science Building, the permitted Humanities, Social Science Research Building (HSSRB) (Pl. Ref. No. 09/134) and associated external raised podium, including the following:(a) Alterations to existing entrance and new eastern entrance lobby to the Arts Science Building and An Bhialann, including works to existing access stairs and new outdoor paved seating area adjacent to the existing Canal. (b) Alterations to the external and internal stairs leading to An Bhialann from western approach and recently granted HSSRB. Alterations include changes to core arrangement, reconfigured cafe arrangement and relocation of lift, plant room and podium level toilets within the permitted HSSRB. Works also include changes to the terracing and landscaping to the northwestern corner of the permitted HSSRB. (c) Alterations to the external podium level including: (i) internalisation of courtyard area to create additional floor area in restaurant with natural daylight provided by the installation of four glazed feature lightwells at external podium level; (ii) relocation of abstract metal sculpture on external podium; (iii) new hard surfacing; (iv) new disabled lift to podium from north western entrance also serving An Bhialann and (v) all associated works including tree removal, localised specialist cleaning of podium, replacement of metal infill balustrading with glazed balustrading, and removal of two lightwells on podium. (d) Alterations to internal areas, including rearrangement of ancillary commercial units and circulation areas. The Library Building, the Arts Science Building, the abstract metal sculpture and the canal are protected structures
