Development Description: 1. The construction of a two-storey extension to the front, side and rear of Ballytarsna Castle. 2. Material change of use: A single storey storage building is to be converted to residential accommodation for a caretaker. The construction works will consist of internal alterations and minor alterations to the exterior of the building. 3. The construction of a bawn wall consisting of a drystone wall, earth mound and hedging. There will be restoration works at the junction of the new bawn wall and ruined section of bawn wall on the northern face of the castle exterior wall. The eastern section of bawn wall is to include entrance gates, stone built piers and archway. 4. Further improvement works at the junction of the existing bawn wall and the new bawn wall (this area forms part of the southern section of bawn wall). The ruined section of bawn wall (western section) is to be rebuilt. 5. The replacement of the existing wastewater treatment system with a certified wastewater treatment system with pump chamber and a soil polishing filter, to appropriate standards. 6. Landscaping of the site consisting of hard landscaping areas, courtyard, parking areas, planting beds, trees, shrubbery and grass areas and all associated site works. We note that Ballytarsna Castle is listed as a National Monument (ID: TS00470) on the Record of Monuments and Places. The Bawn at Ballytarsna Castle is listed as a National Monument (ID: TS04092) on the Record of Monuments and Places.
